Young Woman Tries to Tame Her Unpredictable Powers in Sleight of Hand, from Outskirts Press
Award winning novelist Jennifer Fales’ eclectic fantasy puts a sci-fi edge to her tale of a young woman’s search to define herself in a future world where predators rule and wolves unabashedly flirt.
Corona, CA – Award winning author Jennifer Fales announces today the release of Sleight of Hand, Shadow Games, published by Outskirts Press. A sequel to her novella, Shadows and Fire, Fales’ newest work takes place in a future world flooded with inequity as two twins, one seeking the light, the other mired in darkness, develop their powers deep in a landscape of shadowy domes.
Fales stirs into her page-turning narrative a mesmerizing mixture of bombs, blackmail, a parallel future, one psychopathic twin, a perpetually flatulent canine and a woman whose genetics bridge the gap between human and animal/human hybrid. These tantalizing elements are stirred into a world of four dominant predator houses where the heroine Lilith must learn to overcome her doubt and take control of her remarkable, but unpredictable powers.
Lilith pursues the meaning behind a suicide bomber’s cryptic message passed on to her as a vision in a long dead language few are now able to recognize. This riddle also appears to hold the clue to the origin of Lilith’s seemingly unstable powers, but Lilith and her band of quirky allies must work their way through a maze of lies, clever gadgets and continual danger in order to uncover the truths behind the riddle’s ultimate meaning and a horrible secret.
Fales’ first book in this series, Shadows and Fire, won the ForeWord Reviews Book of the Year Award, and her second novel,The Seraph Contingency, is a Reader’s Favorite International Book Award winner.
“To hear the voice of the one person who truly has the power to define you, you must first tell the rest of the world to shut the hell up so that you can listen,” writes Fales in her foreword. Her readers will certainly be making sure the rest of the world “shuts up” so they can listen carefully to the splendid tale Fales has to tell them in Sleight of Hand.
