I’ve not had the pleasure of reading any of Lisa Black’s novels and I was fortunate to pick up TAKEOVER. I didn’t know it was part of a series of Black’s writings until I finished the book. I was pulled into Black’s novel from the very first page. Black engages the reader in her book immediately pulling in multiple plots and subplots. Her protagonist, Theresa MacLean is very feisty and grabs the page and holds her own. I was intrigued by some of the supporting characters as well…especially the negotiator. Black definitely has a firm grip on her characters. Each one holds true to their personality and never slips out of character.
There was so much happening at every turn of page that I really couldn’t find a comfortable place to put the book down. I ended up reading it straight through in one sitting. That says quite a lot for such a successful piece of writing. It truly was a riveting read and I certainly wouldn’t have a problem picking up another by this author. I liked knowing this was part of a series but could stand alone. I’m not forced to dive into the next book and I like that.
